It was a black Wednesday as eight persons lost their lives in a tanker explosion and bus accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Tribune Online learnt that a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) spilled its content following a head-on collision with a truck which resulted in an explosion, around Kwakyama area in Ogere axis.
Five people lost their lives in the tanker explosion while three persons died when a commercial bus caught fire around Sand Crete in Ogunmakin axis on the same expressway at about 2.52 pm.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that “the commercial bus coming from Ibadan went up in flames when it swayed off to the other lane and collided with a Jeep coming from Lagos.”
Ogun FRSC spokesperson, Florence Okpe, said that a total of 17 persons were involved, comprising male and female adults. 14 persons were injured – 07 male adults and 07 female adults.
“03 deaths were recorded from the crash. 01 of them was burnt beyond recognition.”
Okpe also said that five vehicles were equally burnt into ashes in the tanker explosion
She said that the tanker collided with a truck travelling to Ibadan and caught fire instantly.
