Eid-el-Fitri: Senators, emirs, monarchs, clerics, others stress peaceful coexistence

Former governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has charged Muslim faithful not to forget the very tenets of the religion, which are love, obedience and perseverance.

Akpabio, whose goodwill message was contained in a release by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Jackson Udom, urged  Muslim faithful to close ranks and work for the peace, unity and development of the country adding that “it is only in a state of peace and tranquillity that governments at all levels would be able to deliver dividends of democracy.”

Senator Isiaka Adeleke also called on Muslims in Nigeria to allow sobriety attend their daily lives at this material time in the annals of Nigeria’s history.

This was contained in his Sallah message signed by his media adviser, Olumide Lawal.

Senator Adeleke representing Osun West District, said more than ever before, Nigerians should embrace the old wise saying of “cut your cloth according to your size,” thereby making them to live within their legitimate means, without cutting corners.

Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi 11, urged Muslim faithful to apply lessons learnt during the Ramadan in their day-to-day activities.

He also advised them to observe the obligatory six-day fasting in the month of Shawwal.

The emir advised Muslims ummah to stay in peace, tolerate one another and help the less privileged in the society.

Eid prayers were peacefully conducted in all prayer grounds in Kano metropolis and some other parts of the state amid tight security.

In his sermon, the Imam of Murtala Mosque, Sheikh Kabiru Badamasi Dantaura, urged Muslims ummah to stay in peace.

In Zaria, Kaduna State, the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, described religious tolerance as a critical element necessary for national integration.

In Uyo, the Chief Imam of the Uyo Central Mosque, Alhaji Mohammed Adamu, urged the Federal Government to come up with policies and programmes that would help revive the nation’s economy to reduce the suffering of the people.

In Gombe State, Alhaji Alkali Pindiga, the Chief Imam of the Gombe Central Mosque, called on the Muslim faithful to continue to pray for the peace and stability of the state and the country at large.

The Imam of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Tahir, called on Muslims to use their wealth to improve the lives of the under-privileged.

He gave the advice after the Eid prayers held at the division’s praying ground.

The traditional ruler of the ancient town of Offa in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Mufutau Oloyede Gbadamosi, has urged all Muslims to continue to preach peace, unity and tolerance among themselves with people of other religions.

Oba Gbadamosi called on them not to jettison all the good works done during the Ramadan, saying “let it be the foundation upon which all our actions will rest for the next 11 months when the opportunity will again present itself.”

The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr Ado Ibrahim, on Tuesday, charged Muslims to apply the lessons learnt during the Ramadan in their daily endeavours to create a better society.

Apart from this, the traditional ruler enjoined the people of the state to support the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello in his quest to develop the state.

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) enjoined Muslims to keep to the discipline and self-restraints maintained throughout the month of Ramadan in their subsequent ‘day to day’ lives.

The group commended President Buhari on his anti-corruption war and called on the anti-graft agencies to be diligent in their official activities and the judiciary to exhibit judicial efficiency and effectiveness to make the fight against corruption succeed.

A social rights group, the Democrat, has urged Nigerians, regardless of religious divide, to continue to pray for the prosperity, peace, stability and unity of the country.

The group, in a statement signed by its National Leader, Mr Kehinde Ojoawo and National Secretary, Mr Abdulkabir Aroyehun, called on the nation’s leaders to propagate messages of peaceful living among Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic groups.

The Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also congratulated Muslim ummah in the state and Nigeria as a whole for the successful completion of the Ramadan.

The party urged the people of the state to continue to remain peaceful, law-abiding and respect constituted authorities.
