Eid-el-Fitr Celebration: Gombe residents urged to live in peace, harmony

Published by

Muslim faithful in Gombe State have been enjoined to live in peace and harmony and respect the religious faith of others who are non-Muslims in the spirit of the teachings of the Holy month of Ramadan.

In a message to herald the day, Gombe Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, said that citizens of the state must rise above ethno-religious sentiment for the common good of the state saying that, “as we celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festival, I want to admonish us to learn from the good lessons of Ramadan which connotes piety, obedience and selflessness.”

Inuwa Yahaya who was celebrating his first Sallah as governor of the state said that, “we must also imbibe the tenets of Islam which promotes peace, tolerance, modesty and love as was taught throughout the month of Ramadan.”

While congratulating the entire Muslims in the state for a successful Ramadan fasting, the Governor described peace as a catalyst for socio-economic development of the society and therefore urged residents of the state to live in harmony.

The Governor and other Muslims in the state joined their counterparts across the world to celebrate the 2019 Eid-el-Fitr festival which signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In his Khutbah, the Chief Imam of Bubayaro Central Mosque, Malam Aliyu Hammari, urged Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya to fulfil all his campaign promises and ensure the protection of lives and properties of the citizens irrespective of ethno-religious and political differences.

The Islamic cleric also called on the Muslim worshipers to be steadfast in their service to God and man declaring that “many believe it is a divine connection to channel a legion of hues and cries to God for help.”

The help, as the presiding Islamic cleric puts it, centres on the security challenges rocking the country to its very foundation just as he was quick to call for sanity, truthfulness and steadfastness in the nation’s leadership as according to him, these are some prerequisite for peaceful co-existence.
