EGO Foundation has announced the launch of the Women Traditional Textile Design Programme 2.0, an initiative aimed at empowering 900 women across Lagos, Ogun, and Kwara states.
This edition will focus on training women in the intricate craft and business of African traditional textiles, promoting economic independence and cultural preservation.
The Women Traditional Textile Design Programme (WTTD) 2.0 is designed to equip women with both the technical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge necessary to thrive in the textile industry.
Participants will receive comprehensive training in traditional textile design techniques, as well as in-depth business education covering essential aspects such as marketing, financial management, and digital literacy.
EGO Foundation’s Executive Director, Toluwase Olaniyan, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “By empowering women with the skills to excel in traditional textile design and business management, we are not only preserving our rich cultural heritage but also fostering economic stability within communities. This programme aims to create a ripple effect, enabling women to become financially independent and, in turn, uplift their families and local economies.”
Participants in the programme will also benefit from mentorship opportunities, networking events, and access to markets where they can showcase and sell their creations.
The programme’s holistic approach ensures that women are well-equipped to start and sustain their textile businesses, contributing to the broader goal of economic empowerment and cultural preservation.
