Effective communication part 1

Communication is a major key to doing anything in life. As human being communication is critical.

“Communication helps to spread knowledge and information among people. Moreover, communication is the foundation of all human relationship. At first, strangers start talking and getting to know each other, and then the relationships are formed when they have more interaction and communication. Communicating helps people to express their ideas and feelings, and it, at the same time, helps us to understand emotion and thoughts of the others. As a result, we will develop affection or hatred toward other people, and positive or negative relationships will be created. It is no doubt that communication plays a vital role in human life. It not only helps to facilitate the process of sharing information and knowledge, but also helps people to develop relationships with others. Therefore, the importance of communication cannot be underestimated. Every day, we communicate with a lot of people including our families, our friends, our colleagues, or even strangers. We should learn how to communicate effectively to make our lives better.” Hope speaks.com

We must communicate to be able to effectively relate with other people and to get things done.  If we do not have effective communication skills, it will be difficult to properly construct and foster productive relationships

When a person is deficient in communication he is automatically limited with what he can do. A person who cannot communicate effectively will be disabled from reaching his potential. The higher we go in life the better our communication skills must be hence our communication skills must be improved constantly.

Effective communication does not just happen – it is acquired and learnt. Whereas it may be true that some by nature seem to communicate better than others but the fact of the matter is that everybody can learn to be an effective communicator.

We can divide communication into three major segments. There is verbal communication, non-verbal communication and written communication. Critical skills need to be acquired to be effective in each of the three segments. The issue of written communication is especially important now in view of the preponderance of the social media.

The task of acquiring effective communication skills is entirely our own personal responsibility. We must do all we can to be effective communicators if our lives will count.

There are some tell-tale signs of ineffective communication which one must identity and deal with.

“Any disruption or failure in the process can create ineffective communication. Language is an obvious example; if you as a sender speak in a language the receiver doesn’t understand, the communication fails. Writing a message to a person who has difficulties reading is also ineffective communication. These are called barriers, and they are not all so obvious. For example, if you have an idea but lack confidence to speak up, that is a barrier. Body language, such as slouching in a chair so that it looks like you are bored, is also a barrier.” Karen S.
