EFCC, NIQS  pledge collaboration on fight against corruption, quackery

THE  Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),  Mr. Ola Olukoyede and the president of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Mr Kene Nzekwe, have promised to collaborate to fight against corruption and quackery in the building/construction industry.

This pledge was made during the courtesy visit by the president of NIQS to the EFCC office in Abuja.

Olukoyede stated that the EFCC is prepared to collaborate with stakeholders in the fight against corruption.

He emphasized the need for the NIQS to ensure that quantity surveyors adhere to ethical standards, offering to address corruption-related issues involving its members.

Olukoyede highlighted the EFCC’s focus on prevention, aiming to save government funds by averting corruption rather than pursuing costly prosecutions.

He also expressed the commission’s commitment to professionalism.

Responding, Nzekwe assured the EFCC boss of NIQS’s full support and cooperation in addressing challenges.

He reeled out NIQS’s commitment to ethical practices and transparency in cost management and procurement within the construction and infrastructure sectors.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by corruption in procurement processes, he expressed optimism on the transformative potential of infrastructure investments.

Nzekwe also highlighted the need to confront corruption within the construction sector, citing reports of contract inflation, embezzlement, and abandoned projects. He lauded the EFCC’s efforts to combat corruption and offered NIQS’s solidarity in the fight against corruption.
