EFCC detains PDP guber aspirant in Gombe over 2015 campaign funds

One of the 2019 leading gubernatorial aspirants of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State who is a close associate of Governor Ibrahim Hassan DabKwambo, Bala Bello Tinka was Monday arrested and detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his alleged complicity involving the 2015 PDP campaign funds.A source who spoke under condition of anonymity disclosed to Journalists on Monday that Bala Tinka was initially invited by operatives of the Agency last week Wednesday before he was subsequently detained at the facilities of Agency in Gombe for questioning on the level of his involvement in the campaign funds disbursement.

The source further revealed that he was subsequently released the following day, Thursday after answering the questions put across to him by the Agency.

This will be the second time Bala Tinka was being detained by the anti-graft agency at the Gombe zonal office as EFCC steps up investigations into the slush funds allegedly deployed to procure victory for the then ruling party during the 2015 general elections.

Bala BelloTinka who is believed to be a close associate of Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo is considered to be among the top notchers eyeing the governorship ticket under the platform of the PDP in the 2019 race.

It would be recalled that newly appointed Head of Operations for the EFCC in Gombe zone, Johnson Babalola recently informed Journalists that the Agency has finalised arrangements to arraign three suspects said to be connected to the PDP campaign funds scam before a court in Jos very soon.
