EFCC arrests fake Sheikh over alleged N11m fraud in Ibadan

Published by

The Ibadan Zonal Office of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspect, Omoniyi Ajibade Saheed, who had allegedly been impersonating a popular Lagos-based Sheikh, Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa, and had duped several unsuspecting members of the public to the tune of N11 million.

Omoniyi, 24, according to the EFCC, used to converse on the internet with followers of the Sheikh, urging them to donate to a cause into an account purportedly opened by the Sheikh.

The fake Sheikh was arrested last Monday, March 17, 2017, on his way to withdraw the latest inflow of N1 million into the fraudulent account.

According to a statement released by the EFCC on Thursday, the “Commission got wind of Omoniyi’s fraudulent activities through a petition sent in by the Sheikh.”

Through investigation, the agency revealed that Omoniyi had obtained N11 million before his arrest.

Omoniyi, who hails from Offa, Kwara State, had made confessional statement to the operatives of the commission.

The agency stated that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation into his activities was concluded.
