Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday night, arrested former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos, a few hours after handing over to the new governor of the state, Professor Charles Soludo.
Obiano, who was said to have been on the commission’s watchlist for months, was arrested at about 8.30 p.m.
He was reportedly on his way out of the country to Houston, Texas in the United States after handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo.
It was gathered that hours after handing over to Soludo, Obiano made his way to Lagos after which he proceeded to the international airport.
On sighting him at 8.30 p.m., immigration officers at the airport were said to have alerted the EFCC who immediately arrested him and took him to their office.
When contacted , the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the former governor’s arrest, promising to provide more details later.
