BARRING any last minute change, former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode will be arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on November 10, 2016.
A source in the commission informed the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday that Fani-Kayode, had been served with the charges being preferred against him by the commission in the new case.
The former minister, who acted as the Director, Media and Publicity in the President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in the run-up to the 2015 presidential election is currently facing charges bordering on alleged fraud and money laundering preferred against him by the EFCC.
He is being tried alongside a former Minister of Finance, Mrs Esther Nenadi Usman and a company, Joint Trust Dimension Nigeria Limited, on a 17-count charge bordering on unlawful retention, unlawful use and unlawful payment of money in the tune of about N4.9 billion.
The source, however, stated that he did not know what the new charges to be preferred against Fani-Kayode were, saying that, “As of now, I have not seen the new charges but I am aware that he has been served with the charges.”
Meanwhile, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said: “There is no truth whatsoever in the dubious and attention-seeking alarm that Fani-Kayode slumped and was revived by EFCC medical personnel.
“There was nothing like that as the said Fani-kayode and Obanikoro sat together and enjoyed their jokes at the first round of checks of inmates in EFCC custody on Monday night,” he said.
However, Media Adviser to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Mr Jude Ndukwe, in a statement on Tuesday, chided the rebuttal of spokesperson of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Wilson Uwujaren on the health condition of Fani-Kayode as misinformation of the public.
Ndukwe maintained that Fani Kayode actually slumped on Saturday, owing to a health condition, and had continued to report to the clinic everyday for medical checks, urging members of the public to discountenance Uwujare’s statement that Fani-Kayode’s concerns were dubious and attention-seeking.
Also, the leadership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party,PDP, on Tuesday warned, in a statement made available to news men in Abuja yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary,Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the party stated that t at the time of his arrest, Chief Fani-Kayode was ill and taking medication.
