Educationist, SUBEB train 170 primary school teachers

No fewer than 170 primary school teachers from Ibadan South-west Local Government Area of Oyo State have undergone a training programme to further improve their teaching skills.

Two teachers were drawn from each of the 86 primary schools in the local government area to participate in the training tagged “Closing the trained teachers’ gap,” held at the Queens College, Apata, Ibadan.

The training was organised by an educationist, Morenike Ahmed-Adeniran, in conjunction with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).

The executive chairman, SUBEB, Dr Nureni Adeniran, said the state government was poised to ensure adequate training for teachers at the primary level.

He said in line with the policy of the state governor, Seyi Makinde, on advancement of education, the board would ensure that the training is replicated across the 33 local government areas of the state.

The chairman, who spoke through the executive secretary of the board, Olusanjo Adeniyi, lauded the organisers of the training for contributing to the educational development of the state.

He enjoined other individuals in the society to also invest in such trainings and to make the development of education easier for the new administration in the state.

While appreciating the teachers at the training, the SUBEB boss enjoined them to make good use of the training opportunity to develop and prove themselves in their chosen professions.

Ahmed-Adeniran in her address said the training was aimed at bridging the gap in the capacity-building of teachers in the local government.

According to her, trainings, seminars and workshops were essential programmes that could reshape the mental and academic status of teachers that were expected to impact knowledge on the pupils.

She said the training was organised in order to give back to the community that had supported her, saying the training was meant to improve the teaching abilities of the participants.

She however tasked the teachers to optimally utilise the opportunity to improve themselves and ensure that the training contribute to their performances as teachers.
