Educationist calls for review of school curriculum

Published by

AN educationist, Mrs Toyin Oboh has appealed to the Federal Government to review the education curriculum in the country to tally with the modern realities.

Oboh, proprietress of Jawels Leading Light Academy, Gwarinpa, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Abuja.

He said that education was not supposed to be static, describing it as an evolving industry that needs to flow with trends.

“I would want the Federal Government to review the country’s education curriculum in line with what is happening, because the things they did years back is not what is happening now.

“Things have been modified and simplified to certain length; the Federal Ministry of Education should actually engage those who are in the line of education curriculum and have ideas of what is trending.

“If you observe what has been reviewed over the years now, it is the same thing you see; there should be total review of the curriculum,’’ Oboh said.

The proprietress also called for adoption of different examination methods, noting that some students excel better in practical than written examinations.

She stressed that some of the students were good in remembering things and as such they performed better in written examination, but when it comes to the practical, they fail woefully.

Oboh said that her school, Jawels Leading Light Academy, would establish a high school in September to inculcate formal and entrepreneurship education to build talents.

She stressed that the academy has all its takes to give the best of formal and non-formal education to students, adding that students would be taught how to be independent in the affairs of life.

Oboh explained that it was not right for students to graduate from schools without any form of entrepreneurship skill or trainings thereby relying on government and others for employment.
