Education secretaries, principals tasked on implementation of UBE

Published by

PAST and serving education secretaries in Delta State have been charged to use their position and experience to ensure the effective implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) as established by the law.

The charge was given by a former education secretary in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr Henry Ofa, at a meeting of education secretaries held in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Dr Ofa noted that education at the primary and junior secondary levels is very crucial for the development of the child and that it is necessary that all stakeholders should be involved if the programme is to achieve the desired results.

He, therefore, advised the education secretaries to seek and engage the notable institutions and personalities in their areas for the effective functioning of schools, as government cannot foot the bill of education alone.

Ofa also advised the secretaries to ensure that they make full use of the inspectorate division to effectively monitor teaching and learning in their areas.

As appointees of the government, he said, education secretaries should ensure that they propagate the good works of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, especially in the primary and junior secondary levels of education.

Meanwhile, principals of public secondary schools in the state have been charged to be dynamic and visionary in the running of schools under their care.

Dr Ofa gave the advice at the send off organized in honour of the outgoing principal of Oreki Secondary School Oghareki, Mrs Esther Bariwei.

He commended the efforts of Mrs Bariwei who reached out to prominent indigenes of Oghara and corporate bodies to transform the facilities in the school.
