Ajimobi, represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Science and Technology, Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi, identified this imperative in schools during the capacity building lecture and foundation laying of the Oyo State Secretariat of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), in Ibadan.
According to Ajimobi, focus on vocational education will help engender education that addresses the specific needs of communities and the nation, at large.
Similarly, he stressed that the nation’s education should be internationally competitive so that its students are up to speed with the globalisation.
Delivering the lecture with the theme, “Re-engineering Nigeria Education System For Effective Nation Building,” Professor Oladipo Ekundayo called for indigenisation of the nation’s education where core values drove teaching and learning in schools.
Such indigenisation, he said, will mandate parents to facilitate and enhance good educational practices, where they pay attention to their children or wards.
Ekundayo further called for adequate remuneration of teachers and increased funding of the education sector.
Chairman of the event, Mr Gbadega Adedapo urged private school owners to make education affordable, lamenting that tuition fees of private schools are expensive.
In his own remarks, Chairman, Governing Council, Lead City University, Ibadan, Professor Babajide Owoeye, tasked parents not to abdicate their duties for social media and other worldly pleasures.
President, NAPPS, Oyo State, Mr Kayode Adeyemi, said the association set a two year timeline for completion of the first phase of the secretariat meant to cost about N200 million.
