Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasised the importance of education as the most powerful tool for unlocking the potential of youths, fostering opportunities, and building a prosperous Lagos.
The governor made this statement on Thursday at the official commissioning of new ultra-modern classroom blocks constructed by the Lagos State Government and the Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) at St. Luke Junior Grammar School, Bariga; Mainland Junior Secondary School, Fadeyi; and Euba Junior High School, Mushin, Lagos.
He noted that the commissioning marks a significant milestone in his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Oluwasegun Osiyemi, at the Bariga event, described the initiative as part of a broader effort, with nine other schools across Lagos also being commissioned this week.
He reiterated that education remains the most powerful tool for unlocking the potential of youths, fostering opportunities, and building a prosperous Lagos.
“This is why education and technology remain key pillars of our THEMES Plus Agenda, ensuring that students in public schools have access to world-class learning environments.

“The newly commissioned facilities exemplify our vision for a transformative Lagos, where quality education is accessible to every child, regardless of background,” he said.
At Fadeyi, the governor, represented by the Special Adviser on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, highlighted the state government’s continued investment in education.
He noted that infrastructure, learning tools, and modern materials are being provided to create an enabling environment for students.
“This initiative is part of the transformative power of education and our commitment to ensuring a brighter future for our children. The new classrooms reflect our belief in achieving greatness through learning,” Aregbe remarked.
He urged community leaders, parents, and teachers to support the government’s educational initiatives by ensuring proper maintenance of the new facility.
He also encouraged students to take full advantage of the upgraded learning environment.
“Education is a collective responsibility. Parents, teachers, and stakeholders must work together to ensure every child reaches their full potential,” he added.
He further noted that the newly commissioned facility aligns with the state government’s broader vision of enhancing education and equipping schools with modern infrastructure.
The governor also lamented that Euba Junior School, like many institutions in underserved areas, has long faced significant challenges, including overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating infrastructure, and inadequate learning facilities.
These conditions, he said, have hindered effective teaching and learning, contributing to higher dropout rates, reduced academic performance, and limited opportunities for students to reach their full potential.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Special Adviser, Office of Internal Audit, Dr. Mrs. Oyeyemi Ayoola, said that recognizing these pressing issues, his administration took swift action to address them, reaffirming its commitment to providing a safe, modern, and motivating learning environment.
The governor emphasized the crucial role of education in socio-economic development.
He stated that the newly constructed facility is expected to significantly enhance the quality of education while stimulating community development.
“Improved infrastructure will reduce student absenteeism, increase parental involvement, and provide a more conducive learning atmosphere.
“Beyond its impact on students and teachers, the project has also contributed to local economic growth. The construction phase created job opportunities for community members, offering short-term financial relief and skill development. In the long run, the benefits of quality education will ripple across Mushin, as well-educated youths contribute to the local economy, drive innovation, and foster social cohesion.
“This project is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about investing in human capital and laying a strong foundation for a brighter, more equitable future. With this new classroom block, our students will be more motivated to learn, and our teachers will be better equipped to impart knowledge,” he said.
Commending the efforts of SCRPS, development partners, and all stakeholders involved, the governor urged the community to take ownership of the school and ensure it remains a center of excellence.
Students were also encouraged to make the most of the new facility.
“Study hard, be disciplined, and take pride in your education. The future is in your hands, and with determination and hard work, you can achieve greatness. Education is not just a personal achievement; it is a tool for uplifting your families, your community, and Nigeria as a nation.”
Tutor-General of Lagos State Government District Six, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuf, noted that a conducive learning environment starts with a well-maintained classroom.
She appealed to the school management to properly maintain the infrastructure, emphasizing that the project was funded through taxpayers’ contributions.
