Minister of Education Professor Mamman Tahir has commended Adamawa State Polytechnic for the state-of-the-art facilities provided for the take-off of National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) centre in Yola.
Represented by Mr. Jacob Ango Umaru, the Minister urged the enrollees to make the best use of the equipment in their respective trades and called on the Polytechnic to liaise with the state government towards securing the equipment.
The Minister stated this Thursday, during the former inauguration of National Skill Qualification Framework, (NSQF) in Yola.
The inaugural ceremony which was held in State Polytechnic Yola was organised by the institution in compliance with the directive by the National Board of Technical Education, NBTE, to champion the cause of skill acquisition among the Youths with one hundred and eighty students to be trained in various skills
The skills available for the training include wheel alignment and balancing, refrigeration and air conditioning, welding and fabrication, aluminum fabrication, and carpentry.
Others are plumbing, bricklaying and concreting, digital photography and video editing, electrical installation, both male and female saloons, computer laboratory fashion design, and automobile amongst others.
Corroborating, North East Zonal Director, National Board of Technical Education, NBTE, Mr Abdulrahaman Alpha commended the Polytechnic and urged its counterparts across the country to follow suit.
Rector, Adamawa State Polytechnic, SPY, Professor Mohammed Dahiru Toungo who attributed the success of the project to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri ‘s purposeful leadership said the programme aims to take youths off the street and engage them meaningfully through skill acquisition.
The Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework is a system for the development, classification, and recognition of skills, knowledge, understanding, and competencies required by individuals, irrespective of where and how the training or skill was acquired.
It gives a clear statement of what the learner must know or be able to do, whether the learning took place in a classroom, on the job, or less formally.

Guest speaker at the occasion, Engineer Ahmed Jumba in his presentation ” Overview of National Skill Qualification Framework” explained that the programme indicates the comparability of different qualifications and how one can progress from one level to another.
He maintained that NSQF aims to promote Lifelong Learning by facilitating understanding through occupational learning routes and qualifications and how they relate to each other.
While enumerating other aims of the programme, he noted that it will afford the trainee to have progression routes easier and clearer, improving standard, career comparability, and mobility of non-formal sector.
