Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has described education as the key to societal development just as he expressed concern over the inability of the past administrations in the state to give the desired priority to the sector.
The Governor made the remarks when he received members of the Council Committee on Students Enrollment for the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Bauchi on Thursday.
Senator Bala Mohammed, therefore, said that to ensure productivity and better performance by workers in the state, his administration will support those willing to advance their educational pursuit, particularly at NOUN.

The Governor further assured to collaborate with the University as part of measures to address the challenges facing the state civil service by sponsoring civil servant to study various courses at the university considering its system of education which is easily combined with working.
He informed the committee that currently, the present administration in the state is making efforts to ensure improvement in basic education following the collapsed of the education sector as the administration met it.
He then renewed the commitment of his administration towards improving human capital development in the state’s civil service through training and re-training of the workers.
Speaking earlier, the NOUN Team Leader, Alhaji Garba Sani explained that the committee was recently constituted as a result of the poor enrollment of its students in the North-East and North-West zones of the country.
The Team Leader who said the committee was in the state to seek for stakeholders intervention towards addressing the situation, disclosed that in all the 3 Study Centers of the University in the state, it has only 1,082 as registered students.
Garba Sani further said that currently the National Open University of Nigeria has 27 Study Centres across the country and announced plans for the expanding of the centres to each local government areas of the country.
He, therefore, appealed to Governor Bala Mohammed to support the University in increasing its students’ enrollment for the educational advancement of the state.
