The Deputy Governor of Lagos, Obafemi Hamzat has said the state government was keen in supporting teachers to achieve better learning outcomes in classrooms through EkoExcel.
Hamzat gave the assurance in Lagos during the Lagos State Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) Stakeholders’ Interactive Forum held on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to Hamzat, EkoExcel is a state-designed and funded initiative that will drive excellence in learning for no fewer than 500,000 pupils in 1016 schools.

“EkoExcel is using 21st-century technology-enabled devices to teach students.
“It is an education reform programme that is successfully developing more highly skilled teachers by training, supporting and motivating teachers to succeed in their classrooms.
”It will assist teachers to deliver at the same level as their counterparts around the world.
“Lagos children can accelerate reading and literacy skills to compete with their peers globally,” he said.
Hamzat that the initiative would be launched by a pilot programme consisting of 300 schools across all the local government areas and local council development areas.
”No fewer than 4,000 teachers will be trained in the first phase starting on Dec.1, but at the end, 14,000 government teachers will be re-trained through the programme,’’ Hamzat said.
The Chairman, LASUBEB, Mr Wahab-Alawiye-King, said that through the model, teachers would deliver standard learning to pupils.
He said that the new form of teaching pupils in public primary schools was in line with global standards.
”With the use of the EkoExcel tabs, it is deploying modern techniques to boost learning outcomes in primary schools.
”With the launch of EkoExcel, we hope to remove educational boundaries in both pupils and teachers, as well as collaborate in real-time using advanced educational technology.
”Overall, EkoExcel will empower our teachers to become more skilful in the use of technology in helping our pupils to learn in a conducive environment,” Alawiye-King said.
