Edo State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Auchi, in collaboration with the university, has flagged off a 3-day free medical outreach for children between the ages of 0 -10 years in Edo North Senatorial District of the state.
The free medical outreach which commenced at the university teaching hospital in Auchi on Monday, is part of the week-long activities marking the 5th convocation ceremony of the institution.
Declaring the event open, the state Head of Service (HOS), Barr. Anthony Okungbowa said the state government is committed to the health and well-being of the children in Edo.
He stated that Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration would continue to ensure that the people not just the children alone have access to to good and quality healthcare services
“We are aware that many children in our community face various health challenges due to financial constraints or lack of medical facilities, hence, the objective of this medical outreach is to bridge the gap and provide medical services to those who need it the most”.
Okungbowa disclosed that the free medical exercise provide essential healthcare services, screening, diagnosis, treatment and health education to the beneficiaries.
He added that a team of experienced doctors, nurses and volunteers would provide the children the best possible healthcare.
The HOS expressed appreciation to the healthcare professionals and volunteers who according to him have dedicated their time, skills and efforts towards making the exercise a success.
Okungbowa, who was represented at the ceremony by the Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, Dr. Ndoka Imoisili, however, called on the parents/ guardians to bring their children/wards to the teaching hospital for the free medical services.
Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, said the medical outreach is part of the University’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to its host communities.
He revealed that the exercise will provide a platform for the children to receive comprehensive medical care, preventive measures and intervention, in order to ensure that every child regardless of circumstances and background has the opportunity to grow, thrive and reach their full potential.
On his part, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Hospital, Prof. Sylvester Idogun, informed that the hospital now has a baby care unit, active in the management of newborn infants
Prof. Idogun, further revealed that the unit is equipped with incubator, phototherapy, resuscitator, exchange blood transfusion, nebulizer and all other critical care equipment that are needed for the treatment of the babies.
