Edo shooting: I’ll not rest until perpetrators are brought to book — Okpebholo

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming Edo governorship election on September 21, has vowed to seek justice for his security aide, Inspector Onu Akon, who was killed in an attack.

The incident was confirmed by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, during a news conference on Friday.

The attack occurred on Thursday at the exit gate of Benin Airport, shortly after Okpebholo and the reinstated Deputy Governor, Philips Shaibu, arrived from Abuja.

In his condolence message, Okpebholo expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Inspector Akon and demanded that those responsible for the unprovoked attack be held accountable.

Contrary to earlier reports by the state government, which suggested opposition involvement, Okpebholo clarified that Shaibu was present during the attack and that several of his supporters were injured and are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals in Benin City.

Okpebholo emphasized his commitment to ensuring justice for Akon and his injured supporters.

He described Inspector Akon as a dedicated and exemplary officer of the Nigeria Police Force, with whom he had developed a friendship over the past 12 years due to Akon’s exceptional commitment to duty.

Assuring the bereaved family, Okpebholo promised that the brutal killing of their breadwinner would not be overlooked.

He also prayed for the repose of Akon’s soul and wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the attack.
