The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that 33 people lost their lives in road accidents across Edo State between January and February. Edo Sector Commander of the FRSC, Cyril Matthew, made this known to journalists in Benin on Tuesday.
Providing details, Matthew stated that January recorded 15 deaths from 17 crashes involving 119 individuals.
“In February, 171 passengers were involved in 18 accidents, resulting in 18 deaths and 69 injuries,” he said.
He attributed the crashes to factors such as brake failure, speeding, dangerous driving, phone use, and route violations.
The sector commander advised motorists to avoid overloading, drunk driving, night driving, and excessive speed to enhance road safety.
He added that the FRSC had intensified safety campaigns across the state and urged stakeholders to collaborate towards achieving zero road crashes.
