Obaseki, left and Ize-Iyamu
THE candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 28, 2016, governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and his party have approached the Supreme Court seeking to upturn the verdict last week of the Appeal Court that reaffirmed the election of Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the election.
In a unanimous decision by five judges, the Appeal Court ruled that the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal painstakingly carried out its job by objectively considering the case presented before it, adding that the tribunal deserved commendation for a job well done.
However, Ize-Iyamu and PDP, who are the first and second appellants, have listed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Godwin Obaseki and the APC has first second and third respondents respectively.
The appeal before the Supreme Court has 21 grounds upon which Ize-Iyamu and the PDP are seeking the declaration of Ize-Iyamu as winner of the September 28, 2016, Edo State State governorship election.
The Supreme Court has 60 days to consider the Appeal and give its verdict.
