Edo police arrests 35-year-old man for impregnating 13-year-old daughter

AT only 13, Miss Precious Friday has no doubt been through too much too soon as the primary six pupil is presently battling with a five-month-old pregnancy as a result of rape by the father. The father, Mr Moses Friday who was paraded along with 75 other suspects by the Edo state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo was said to have serially raped the teenager since she was seven, an action which provoked neighbours who excommunicated him from the small town of Ologbo, near Benin where he was living.

Friday who claimed to be a native of Abak, Akwa Ibom state, however, denied the allegation, insisting that he was not responsible for the pregnancy and only admitted under duress as the police tortured him.

Little Precious whose tummy has started bulging said that the commercial bike rider threatened to kill her shoud she ever let the cat out of the bag.

She said that she only got to know that she was pregnant when some neighbours who noticed the sharp change in her anatomy accosted her.

According to the school girl, the eldest in a family of three children, she lost her mother about six years ago readily owned up when the curious neighbours at suburban Okha, Benin took her to the palace of the community leader where he admitted to raping the daughter.

The rapist however maintained his innocence: “I didn’t sleep with her. I am not responsible for the pregnancy. She was wayward and has the habit of sleeping outside the house. I warned her but she won’t listen. The police tortured and threatened to kill me except I agree.”
