Edo: NIPR holds third public lecture, calls for strategic development

Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) on Wednesday, held its 3rd Monthly Public Lecture, with the theme “Governance and Prosperity in Edo: Options and Challenges”.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including policymakers, professionals, and community leaders, who engaged in robust discussions on the issue of governance, development, and challenges in the state.

In his opening address, the state NIPR Chairman, Dr. James-Wisdom Abhulimen, said that the state NIPR is committed to promoting professional ethics, transparency, and effective governance in society.

He explained that the institute is aimed at fostering collaboration that would enhance socio-economic development in Edo, underscoring the importance of good governance as a means to drive prosperity.

The NIPR boss congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his inauguration as the Governor of Edo State.

He said the governor’s election victory was a reflection of the trust and hope the people have in him.

Abhulimen commended Okpebholo for being proactive towards achieving good governance, especially in the areas of infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, Human and Capital Development in the state.

“I appeal to Mr. Governor to prioritise key areas such as infrastructural development, education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic diversification to promote inclusive growth and improve the standard of living for all Edo citizens”, he said.

Delivering the event’s lecture, Prof. Felix Oriakhi of the Federal University, Otuoke, called on the state government to provide all-inclusive governance for the people.

He recommended provision of quality education, healthcare agriculture economic diversification expansion, and tourism for the state to experience growth and development.

“There is need for transparent, ethical leadership that prioritizes the public good over personal interests, with a focus on combating corruption and alleviating economic hardships.

“There need for the establishment of accessible, high-quality healthcare centers across communities to improve public health services,” he said.
