The election, which held during the organisation’s Annual General Meeting at the Central Mosque, Benin City, was supervised by a seven-man Shura Committee following the nomination of persons found worthy to fill the vacant offices in EDSCIA.

Speaking before the election, Alhaji Igbinidu praised the Otaru of Auchi, Alh. Aliru Momoh, Vice President-General of the NSCIA, representing Edo State, for his fatherly role towards the organization.

He also showered encomium on Alh. Muhammad Ali, aka Muhammed Furniture, for the palliative donation and support during the COVID-19 era.

Alh. Igbinidu commended the Elders Council and the sub-reconciliation committee headed by Alh. Musa Sule, for their resilience in the face of the grievances that rocked the body sometimes.

Mallam Salim Salam and Barr. Nurudeen Asunogie, who both took turns admonishing and giving goodwill messages to the house, sued for understanding, cooperation, and peaceful co-existence among Islamic faithful in the State.

The newly elected officers thereafter took the Bai”ah {pledge} of allegiance, which was administered to them by Alh. Yusuf Bako as directed by the Elders.

However, before the Bai”ah, the old parallel execos led by Alh. Igbinidu and Nurudeen Asunogie were dissolved by the house after Alh. Bako Yusuf moved a motion for the dissolution.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman Abdulazeez Igbinidu promised to do his best to propagate Islam in the state. He expressed appreciation to the Musa Sule-led elders’ council for its relentless effort at reconciling aggrieved parties in the run-up to the AGM/handover programme.

He urged all stakeholders who played different roles in bringing about the peace so far enjoyed by all not to back off but continue their honourable and commendable behaviour.

The SSA on religious matters, who represented Gov. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki at the event, gave a goodwill message to the governor, whom he said would have loved to be there but was absent due to some other engagement.

Dr. Abdulmajid Momoh represented the Otaru of Auchi at the session, which also marked the end of the division in the body that resulted in factional leadership in the organization.
