Edo: INEC begins training of ad-hoc staff

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday commenced training of ad-hoc staff that would be in charge of the various polling units across 192 wards during the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.

Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Sam Olumekun, said 263 supervisory presiding officers trained as ad-hoc staff would undertake the task of training other categories of ad-hoc staffs to ensure a hitch-free process.

Addressing 300 staffs from various tertiary institutions in the state that have been shortlisted for the training, the REC observed that the training was to equip them with the innovations of the commission to enable them function effectively as he assured of the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible election in the state.

On the card reader, he assured that there would not be failure as the commission has made significant progress from experiences of past elections, adding that engineers would be available on the day of election to correct any malfunctioning of the machines.

The INEC chief said accreditation and voting would be going on simultaneously on election, assuring that INEC would not favour any political party.

Mr Olumekun added that the ad hoc staffs would swear an oath of allegiance and loyalty after the completion of their training.
