As the preparations for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State intensify, there is a surge in lobbying for the deputy governorship candidate position within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Various political figures and interest groups are putting pressure on the governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the party leadership to consider their preferred candidate as the running mate.
One individual who has emerged as a prominent contender is Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, also known as E.J, a former member of the House of Representatives. A Diaspora group, N’Edo Ghama Diaspora Group, USA, has endorsed E.J, highlighting his legislative and executive experience, as well as his past role as a Special Adviser during the administration of Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

The group believes that E.J’s affiliation with some past American Presidents would be an added advantage for the state if he were to emerge as the deputy governor. They emphasized the need for a running mate with significant electoral value and a broad appeal across various spheres of society.
In a statement, the N’Edo Ghama Diaspora Group, USA, urged party leaders and faithful in Edo South and across the three senatorial districts to nominate Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma as the running mate to Sen. Monday Okpebholo. The group believes that this combination would create an unbeatable team for the upcoming election.
The statement was signed by Pastor Timothy Ogie (President), Dr. Obama Asemota (Elders Council USA), Professor Osa Obasogie (Elders Council, USA), and Comrade Usunobun (Elders Council, USA).
