The factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Tuesday, insisted that Honourable Matthew Iduoriyekemwen remains the party’s candidate for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.
Sheriff, who said this when he hosted a delegation of Edo women from the state, who came to thank him for choosing Mrs Herberta Okonufua, as running mate, noted that an Abuja division of Federal High Court, had ruled that he is the only one who would submit governorship candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for Edo and Ondo states.
“The court also said that starting from the date of the last convention, May 21, in Port Harcourt, any document signed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, is illegal, null and void. So, I don’t know why they are deceiving Nigerians,” he said.
Sheriff said that the Supreme Court had made a declaration where someone who did not run for election became a governor in River State for eight years.
He said that Nigeria was a country being ruled by law, adding that unless the Nigerian constitution was changed over night, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who was produced by the national caretaker committee “is only wasting his time”.
