Edo guber: APC pulls out of peace accord signing

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday morning announced that it would not be signing the Peace Accord agreement with other political parties ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.

The Peace Accord, facilitated by the National Peace Accord Committee (NPAC) led by former Head of State General Abdusalami Abubakar, was scheduled to be signed by the 18 political parties participating in the election at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

However, a few minutes before the scheduled time, the APC Edo State Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, announced that the party would not be signing the Peace Accord.

According to Tenebe, this decision was based on the failure of the police to arrest those allegedly responsible for the killing of Inspector Akor Onu, one of the police officers attached to the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on July 18 at the Benin Airport Road.

Tenebe listed about twenty individuals he claimed were responsible for the officer’s death.

Details later.
