Edo guber: Adequate personnel deployed for hitch-free election — DIG Mba

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the police contingent for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Frank Mba, announced on Wednesday that sufficient officers have been deployed to ensure a smooth election.

Mba revealed that, with the support of the Edo State Police Command, numerous miscreants who could threaten the election have been apprehended at various hotspots across the state.

Speaking in Benin, Mba added that the police would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure comprehensive security during the election.

“Like the IGP has already briefed Nigerians, the police will be adequately deployed for the Edo election,” Mba stated.

He continued, “Today (Wednesday), we held a meeting with strategic commanders, DPOs, Area Commanders, Deputy Commissioners of Police, and the Commissioner of Police, who are responsible for providing leadership and supervision at various levels.”

“Our task is to create a peaceful environment for a free, fair, and credible election. We are working with sister agencies, as we cannot operate in isolation.”

Mba highlighted that Edo State shares borders with Kogi, Delta, Ondo, and Anambra states, and security measures will be robust.

“The Army will oversee the border areas that are far from the state, while the Navy will secure the waterways.

“Other security organizations will also assist us during the election.”

He also provided a dedicated phone number, 07025000383, for the public to report any breaches of peace.

“This phone number will be with me, and if operational reasons prevent me from carrying it, it will be with my PA.”

Mba further noted that the state command, supported by visiting officers, has been conducting specialized operations, including raids on known criminal hideouts.

“These raids are target-oriented, intelligence-driven, and aimed at isolating criminal elements in the state. Some arrests have already been made.”

He concluded, “The raids will continue as we are committed to providing adequate security for the election.”
