Edo Govt to partner NYSC to boost education, health care in rural area

THE Edo Government has promised to partner with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state to boost education and deliver good health care service to the rural people.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo made the promise on Monday in Benin when he played host to the state coordinator of NYSC on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin.

He said they would be working together as partners to change the face of our educational system mostly in the rural areas.

According to him, the administration is committed to supporting the NYSC, include them in the state’s plans to ensure that the people feel government’s  impact.

“We understand you have some challenges, we have you in mind I want to assure you that you are not strangers in our land and we will not treat you as one.

“We see you as part of us, the services of corps members, who are teachers and doctors posted to our rural areas will greatly help our people,” he said.

The governor said that the policy of the government was to make unemployment history and as such, the government was soliciting the support of agencies in that regard.

Earlier, the state coordinator, Mr Adebayo Ojo, said that a total of 6,653 corps members were currently serving in the state, with 3,144 male and 3,509 female and 55 from this figure were medical doctors, 33 pharmacists and 81 lawyers.

Ojo said that as part of Obaseki’s policy of revamping the educational sector about 90 per cent of corps members are posted to secondary schools across the state for their primary assignments.
