Edo govt set to reposition Usen Poly, refurbishes equipment

The Edo State government is determined to reposition the state polytechnic in Usen to be the best in Nigeria, according to its rector, Professor Abiodun Falodun.

Speaking recently at Usen, in Ovia Southwest Local Government Area of the state at a two-day workshop at the institution, Professor Falodun, a former deputy vice chancellor (Academics) at the University of Benin, said the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, had mandated him to turn around the fortune of the institution.

He said since he was given the order, all equipment hitherto abandoned by previous administrations had been serviced.

Only a few years ago, the rector noted that most of the equipment were rotting away in the chemistry, biochemistry, biology/microbiology laboratories of the institution.

Falodun listed such equipment to include Atomic Absorption Spectrophometer, Gas Chromatography (GC) UV Visible, Spectrophometer Flame Photometer, Freeze Driers Colorimeter Polarimeters, among others.

He predicted that the polytechnic, which was founded by former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, would soon become a hub for analysis of local and industrial products that will meet the best international best practice.
