Edo govt seals Oredo borrow pit

In a bold move to reclaim state-owned assets, the Edo State Government has sealed a borrow pit in Lagos Street axis of Benin City, Oredo Local Government Area, of the state till further notice.

This decisive action was taken by the Coordinator of the Taskforce for Protection of Government Property, Hon. Okoloise Eugene, and his team Tuesday.

The borrow pit, which is supposed to generate revenue for the state government, had been allegedly taken over by some strangers who built shops on the premises.

Investigations revealed that during the previous administration, these individuals allegedly bribed personnel who were supposed to report the illegal occupation to the government.

The state government who is committed to ensuring that its assets are utilized for the benefit of all citizens, rather than being exploited by a few individuals for personal gain lay siege to the place for possible reclaiming of the encroached area.

The sealing of the Oredo borrow pit is a significant step towards protecting government assets and ensuring that they are used for the intended purposes.

This move according to the taskforce demonstrates the state government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The State government has continued to take decisive action against corruption and mismanagement of the citizens’ collective commonwealth.

“The people of the state can expect a new era of transparency, accountability, and good governance,” the taskforce noted.
