Edo govt opens bus terminal, warns passengers against boarding in unauthorised places

Published by

The Edo State government has warned commercial bus drivers that it will no longer condone the boarding of passengers in any other area of Benin metropolis  following the opening of Benin Central Park Terminal at Obakhavbaye.

The Head of Operations, Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA), Mr. Osagie Emokpae, who stated this when he led other members of the Edo Joint Task Force (JTF) to monitor compliance on the use of the bus terminal said the government remained committed to ensuring safety and sanity on roads.

Emokpae ordered commercial bus drivers plying S & T Barracks and Ekenwan Park to relocate to the new terminal in order to help actualise the state government’s vision of decongesting the major streets of traffic.

He said: “We don’t want to see vehicles loading outside the central park. We want all of them to relocate to the central park. We have started with Ekenwan and S&T Barracks Park and the level of compliance is highly commendable.”

Speaking on behalf of the state chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Mr. Odion Isede, said the directive from the state government was aimed at improving the state’s transport system.

Isede advised all transporters operating in the affected areas to obey the directive.

While commending the state government for what he described as a world-class bus terminal, the representative of the Edo State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Abdulrasheed Amasihohu, expressed satisfaction with the flow of traffic at the Ekenwan road axis.
