Edo Assembly to give legislative backing for 30-year development plan

The Edo State House of Assembly has assured that the 30-year development plan launched by Governor Godwin Obaseki would not end up as political rhetoric as it promised to back the plan up with legislative framework and law for its sustainability.

Speaker of the Assembly, Marcus Onobun, gave the assurance as a panelist during a roundtable session at the Fifth Alaghodaro Summit, held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.

Onobun spoke at the plenary session, which was moderated by Oghogho Adewusi, Regional Director, Africa, BBC Global News, with the theme, “Reinventing Governance: The bottom-top approach.”

The Edo State House of Assembly speaker said: “I am happy we have a governor who is planning for the future of our children. He has been putting policies and programmes in place as well as building our future, our responsibility is to give legislative backing and enabling laws for the benefit of our state.

“Edo State legislature will assist the governor in putting things in place and the legislative backing for the 30-year development plan and all that requires to ensure it comes to fruition for the younger generation.”

On his part, the Commissioner for Finance,Joseph Eboigbe, said that the 30-year development plan as a state’s document would be exposed for citizens to make inputs before it would be given executive and legislative approvals.
