Edo: APC leaders lobby for Agbomhere as Okpebholo’s SSG

As the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next governor of Edo State approaches, the race for the position of Secretary to the State Government (SSG) has become increasingly competitive.

Various factions are lobbying to ensure their preferred candidate secures the coveted position.

Among the frontrunners is Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, the South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who has gained significant support from some party leaders for the role.

A prominent APC party figure, Comrade Osumah Afuosino, has called on the governor-elect to consider Agbomhere for the SSG position, arguing that he possesses the necessary qualifications, skills, and experience to excel in the role.

Afuosino, the publicity secretary for the APC’s Etsako West Local Government Area chapter, in a statement made available to journalists  in Abuja expressed confidence that Agbomhere would foster stronger ties between the party and the incoming administration.

He believes Agbomhere’s appointment would ensure greater unity within the government and party structure.

He stated, “Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect, requires someone who is articulate, driven, and capable of delivering results in this critical role. Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, a seasoned lawyer and accomplished writer, has demonstrated his commitment to societal development through his numerous publications and contributions.”

“Through his foundation, Agbomhere has significantly impacted Edo State’s educational sector, donating writing materials to schools for over three to four decades. His humanitarian efforts have also provided financial aid, helping many engage in small-scale businesses,” Afuosino added.

Afuosino further highlighted Agbomhere’s leadership experience, noting his success in various positions within academia, the private sector, and politics. He praised Agbomhere’s current role as APC’s South-South Organising Secretary, where he played a key part in the party’s recent electoral victory in Edo State, streamlining party operations and promoting internal cohesion.

“With the political challenges behind us and our focus now firmly on governance, it is crucial to have someone like Agbomhere in the SSG role. His dedication and relentless work ethic were instrumental in ensuring APC’s success,” Afuosino stressed.

Afuosino concluded by emphasizing that Agbomhere’s loyalty to the party, particularly his decision not to challenge the APC primary results that led to Senator Okpebholo’s candidacy, further demonstrates his commitment to party unity and discipline. He urged that Agbomhere be given priority consideration for the SSG appointment.
