Edo APC leader backs impeachment of Speaker

AGAINST the backdrop of alleged moves by Edo lawmakers to impeach the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Adjoto, a top member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Edo Central Sensational district, Chief  Francis  Inegbeneki weekend asked the lawmakers to fast-track the speaker’s impeachment process.

Inegbebeki told journalists in Benin alleged that Adjoto has run afoul of the party’s Contribution by dragging the party to court for not giving him the ticket to the House of Representatives.

According to Inegbeneki ” Adjoto has been to the state House of Assembly three times on the platform of the party and instead of being grateful to the party he is now paying the party back with ingratitude.

“The party has done so much for Adjoto by making him the  Speaker of the House after all the odds against him and what Adjoto has done amounts to disloyalty and should not be encouraged in the party.

“His impeachment  has become comparative as  it will  serve as a lesson  to others  who will want  to take the same  step.”

Going by precedent, Benin has the governorship in the person of Governor Godwin Obaseki while the deputy, Comrade Phillip Shaibu is from Edo North. The speaker and the ruling APC chairman, Mr Anslem Ojezua are supposed to be zoned to Edo central. Thus, the emergence of Adjoto from Edo North where Shaibu hails from is seen by the Esan as going against this gentleman agreement and cause for deep resentment among Esan people.

The present arrangement has obviously upset the political balancing, leaving Edo Central without a representative in the three most important political positions in the
state.

“Members of the Party should learn to obey and respect the party constitution because the party is Supreme to individuals,” he said.
