Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for 2023 elections has declared his support for the party’s flag-bearer in Edo, Olumide Akpata ahead of the September gubernatorial poll.
This comes on the heels of the division among his supporters popularly called OBidient Movement on who to support between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo and LP candidate, Akpata Olumide.
Addressing Nigerians on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday, Peter Obi described Akpata as “a very credible candidate” urging his supporters to give the former NBA President their maximum support.
The former Anambra Governor also promised to campaign for the LP flagbearer as soon as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares the electioneering campaign open.
“I’m still in the Labour Party and I have to support our candidate in Edo (Akpata),” he responded when asked to clarify his position on Edo politics.
Recently, Akpata held a closed-door meeting with the Labour Party national leader.
The meeting, TRIBUNE ONLINE gathered, was on vital matters about the Labour Party and the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo.
