Edmark moves to fight youth unemployment in Igbo land

“Our people (Ndigbo) are trapped outside our lands,  something must be done to get them back home. Our elders have refused to go home, even after retirement. Our towns and cities are deserted. Our people are now organising traditional marriages of their children outside our land.” Something has to be done”

The aforementioned statements sum up the effects of unemployment situation in Igbo land and they were said by the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, while speaking recently at a town hall meeting with Igbo Business Community, in Lagos.

Nigerian Tribune leanrt that Igbo are not the most affected tribe with the unemployment problem in the country as the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that  Nigeria’s unemployment rate rose from 12.1 per cent in the first quarter of last year to 13.3 per cent as at the end of the second quarter on August 31, 2016.

Little wonder the second move by the Edmark Group International to tackle youth unemployment in Southeast geo-political zone was received with jubilation in Enugu last week.

The event was a Bizfair launch which attracted people from all the five states that make up Southeast region.

To the organisers of the programme, Enugu’s choice for the foreign business conglomerate was not by coincidence as Enugu remains the heartland of Igbo nation, since it became the headquarters of the defunct Eastern Region.

Another project embarked upon by Edmark in the Coal City was the “P4 lose to win” which the management of the group explained was principally to tackle obesity which is penetrating every walks of life not only in Igbo land but across the entire continent.

According to the Senior Crown Manager of Edmark, Mr Felix Nwatu, “with Edmark’s weight loss initiatives, distributors are encouraged to turn their weight loss journeys into a business opportunity and tool to be a product of the product.

“The one-day Enugu event held concurrently with the P4 Lose to Win launching, is the epitome of the saying, seeing is believing.”

From presenting the macro view of Edmark Group of Companies to the presentation of local Nigerian achieves and leaders, the exhibitions at the Bizfair carry answers to questions that Nigerians would have regarding the business, the products, and the company as  a whole”, he added.

According to him, “Ever since Edmark started its journey in Nigeria with its set in mind, the company has continuously provided  job opportunities through its network marketing business and promoting a healthier life style through its high quality food supplements”

“Now the Company is set to create a positive living environment with efficient public utilities, hygienic amenities, state-of-the art facilities. With quality education and a favour able living condition, Edmark envisions to. Hold a productive, prosperous, and positive community in Nigeria. I strongly believe that this Enugu event will yield more result especially reducing the high rate of unemployment in Igbo land”, Nwatu added.

A cross section of the participants interviewed agreed that Edmark Company had provided them apple opportunities to improve their lives, making them more responsible in the society.

Jane Okoroafor, who said she is a Distributor in the company said she search for for white collar job for five years in vain but the Edmark group rescued the situation as she is now enjoying as an gainful worker in the country, meeting up her challenges such as joining her husband to train their their four children in tertiary institutions.

“As I speak to you, I am happy for Edmark for coming to save me from unemployment problem I found myself five years after my graduated from the university. I am a proud land owner in Enugu which I did not dream of until I came into the Edmark group of companies. I thank God for Edmark because without them I will not be where I am now”.
