ECTS to sustain students’ free ride scheme, commends Obaseki on transformation

The Management of Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) has vowed to sustain the free ride scheme for school children, despite the hike in the prices of petroleum products.

The Managing Director of the state-owned transport company, Mrs Edugie Agbonlahor, made the commitment while fielding questions from journalists in Benin City, the state capital.

She declared that the favourable policies of Governor Godwinoodwin Obaseki had helped to transform and sustain the company.

Mrs Edugie also hinted on plans by ECTS to extend its coverage from 15 Local Government Areas to three others in the state, to cover the entire state.

“In compliance with the government policy on free rides for school children, many parents are no longer burdened anymore on how their children get to school because of the free services ECTS is offering.

“We have kept the faith over the years. This government is really committed to the education of our children and transportation is one way of getting our children to be educated.

“I also want to thank God for the peace and industrial harmony in the company. To a large extent, our fees are affordable. We have helped to moderate fares within the intra-City routes,” she said.

Continuing, the Managing Director said: “because most commercial drivers are aware that we are on the road during the daytime. They still try to maintain the prices of transport fares, especially on the routes on Benin metropolis. Once we (ECTS) buses close, we know what happens thereafter.

“We have also enjoyed a great tunnage for hire. This is one of the things that have ginger up social activities within and outside the State. So, when people have burials and wedding Ceremonies, they can count on ECTS carrying all their guests.

“We are trying to be efficient as we can to be able to cater for our passengers,” she reiterated.
