The President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr Amos Mohzo, has stated that the economic hardship and security challenges are great threats to the well-being of the citizens of Nigeria.
Rev. Dr Mohzo, who stated this at the 104th general church council, held at the COCIN headquarters church in Jos, Plateau State, tasked stakeholders and relevant institutions in the country to come together to address the challenges collectively, adding that the country’s future relies on the commitment of its citizens to uphold justice and work collaboratively to build a better nation.
He further explained that Nigeria has experienced prolonged political dissatisfaction and growing disillusionment among the populace, while citizens are also increasingly concerned about the country’s governance, transparency, accountability, and political turmoil, which has eroded trust in the system and heightened the urgency for reform and improving governance.
The president further said the economic challenges faced by the commoners in Nigeria are deeply concerning as inflation, unemployment, and poverty rates have risen, making it difficult for individuals and their families to meet their basic needs, stressing that the impact of these economic hardships is being acutely felt and the need for sustainable economic policies is paramount.
He further argued that Nigeria’s current predicament calls for collective responsibility from all segments of society, adding that it is crucial for every individual, regardless of their status, to engage in self-evaluation and take an active role in addressing those issues that plague the nation. Justices are in short supply while calling on all Nigerians to work together to restore these values.
