THE All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has assured that the current economic recession the nation is facing would not stop him from developing the state.
The candidate said factors that made the Benin Municipal Council to be one of the richest councils in the 1960s were still available and that Edo State would be great again without oil.
He spoke on Friday at Uwa Primary School, venue of the APC campaign kick-off in Edo South Senatorial district, assuring that his administration would not disappoint the people of the state if elected as governor on September 10.
He said: “In the last seven years, we have done in Edo what nobody had been able to do in the recent history of Nigeria. They said we didn’t have money but today we have built over 1000 kilometres of roads, built schools and done other things.
“The work we started eight years ago is still work in progress. We have a lot much to do. We have just scratched the surface. We have only done the major roads; there are more we need to connect,” he said.
“We have given C of O covering 150, 000 hectares to 12 commercial farmers. They are finalising things to begin production soon. We have given land to people and not to ourselves like they did before. We will focus on technical education and training of the youth.
“We will set up entrepreneurship programme for youth. Whether you go to school or not, we will train you and employ you. I am confident in what I have said because it is what I have done for the past 30 years of my life.
Also speaking, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, said he was prepared to show evidence of projects not executed under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was ready to open investigation on the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion.
He said he lifted embargo placed on employment into the civil service by the PDP administration and employed doctors and nurses since the embargo was lifted.
