Economic hardship: Be patient with Tinubu, APC chieftain tells Nigerians

Published by

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr Olamide Ohunyeye, has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu amidst the current hardship in the country.

Ohunyeye made the call while featuring on a current affairs programme “Situation Room” on a private radio station, Fresh FM Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The retired military officer, who is a leading gubernatorial aspirant for the 2024 election in Ondo State, explained that the president is working hard to ensure his economic reforms turn things around in the country in the shortest possible time.

He noted that the country is passing through a phase and will come out stronger; stressing that the recent increase in federal government savings is an indicator that better days are here.

According to him, “Now with that (subsidy removal), what Mr. President brought on board is at least about six trillion Naira savings for the country on yearly basis and we expect that in the middle term, most of this money will be ploughed back to achieving massive development across board in the country.

“ We expect that six trillion will do a lot in building infrastructure in generating employment, in reducing pervasive poverty through entrenched poverty reduction schemes all over the country.

“You could see the rot within the Central Bank of Nigeria that is currently being investigated and with the view that some of the findings will aid the organization of these entities. So in the short run, we might not actually see the effect, but very certainly, with the pragmatic leadership that President Tinubu has displayed, it’s very sure that in a very limited time, we are going to start seeing the results.”

On security, he said the country needed an apparatus that security personnel would operate within the various localities in the society, which would equip them to monitor and know all the individuals within that society.

Ohunyeye said that he has a development blueprint to engineer the economic rebirth of the state and improve its economic indices.
