The Bishop of Anglican Communion, Kutigi Diocese in Lavun local government area of Niger state, Rt. Reverend Jeremiah Ndana Kolo has decried the economic hardships bedevilling, Nigerians saying it has reached an alarming proportion.
The Cleric stated this at the end of this year’s three days Synod held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Mokwa, highlighting that it has reached a high crescendo as Nigerians can no longer afford the prices of food items in Nigerian markets.
The theme of this year’s synod is themed ‘Confession of faith and its confirmation’ which begins on Friday 31st of May to the 2nd of June 2024, streamlining part of the activities lined up for 2024 which includes, widows end of the year thanksgiving and to honour distinguished personalities.
Those to be honoured include: Mr.James Bake Tetengi, recently appointed Permanent Secretary and Princes Rachael Yisa, given a political appointment by the incumbent Niger state government, also to be honoured are another six Eminent personalities celebrating their 70 years birthday who have contributed immensely to the growth of Christianity in the Diocese.
The administrator of the Diocese, Rev Solomon Gana expressed gratitude to God for His mercies to meet together in another session of the 2024 Synod.
In his sermon on Friday the first day of the Synod the administrator admonished Christians to imbibe the historical background of Christianity as stated in the book of Acts 11:23 “we should all be pillar, not a caterpillar.”
In his goodwill message, the Bishop of Bida Diocese, Jonah Kolo Commended the Bishop of Kutigi for making this year’s synod a successful and historic moment as part of activities to enhance the work of God.
The communique issued at the end of the first session of the 5th Synod signed by the Bishop, Jeremiah Ndana Kolo reiterated the need for government to redouble efforts to urgently curb the menace of insecurities, like Banditry and Kidnappings which have become a daily phenomenon across the country.
The Synod enjoined Christians to be contended with whatever they have and love God with all their hearts and strength and to as well love their neighbors as themselves in spite of the prevalent economic hardship charged government to be more proactive in curtailing the monster.
It commended the Niger state governor, Umaru Bago for his exceptional commitment in the areas of youth employment, agriculture and infrastructural development across the state, while efforts must be put in place to curtail insecurity, particularly the youth restiveness.
It however urged Christians faithfuls to double their efforts in spreading the gospel to inculcate the habit of godliness in the human race, emphasizing that Christians are not only to confess their faith but to put it into practice no matter life challenges.
28 House of Clergy and 37 House of Laity graced the three-day annual event held at the St. John’s Anglican church Mokwa.
