Gov Willie Obiano
The Commissioner for Environment, Architect Michael Okonkwo disclosed this during an interview with newsmen in his office at Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka.
Architect Okonkwo said that the State Governor Chief Willie Obiano is still soliciting for more ecological interventions from the federal government and other donor agencies like the World Bank, by sending a save our soul message to them, on the hazards caused by erosion in parts of the state.
The Commissioner who said that intervention works are currently going on in four active erosion sites in the state, commended the state government, the federal government and the World Bank for their collaborative efforts to achieve such feat.

He noted that despite the achievements of the state government in tackling erosion, Anambra State is still listed as the least in land mass in the whole federation because of erosion, adding that it was the reason for the Governor’s dogged quest for more assistance from donor agencies and the federal government.
Assuring government’s determination to stop erosion menace in the state, the Commissioner stressed that the state government is determined to sustain practices that would curb erosion which includes adequate waste management, provision of properly terminated drainages and tree planting among others.
The Commissioner said that all the displaced persons were being compensated under the Resettlement of Affected Persons Programme (RAPP) and enjoined Nigerians, particularly Ndi Anambra to partner with the state government in its efforts to combat erosion in the state
