EBSU sacks staff, for gross misconduct

THE disciplinary committee of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki (Ebsu) in a bid to rid the state education sector of decadence terminated the appointments of two lecturing employees and one non-tutorial staff for gross misconducts.

One of the defaulting staff Ubochi Joseph of Post Graduate School according to the University Public Relations Officer Mr Patrick Itumo, in an interview said Ubochi Joseph was dismissed on the 19th day of April 2018 for alleged embezzlement of school fees collected from students and forgery of receipts.

Dr John Egbo of Educational foundation was also shown the way out for sexual harassment of female students especially the most pronounced incident involving one miss Peace.

The PRO also confirmed that Mr Chinedu Onwe Ogah of History and International Relations department who had been on suspension for offences ranging from alteration of students’ scores, extortion of money and sexual harassment of female students of his department has lost his appointment as the University management via investigation committee found him guilty as charged.

Mr Itumo expressed readiness of the management of Ebonyi State University to rid the sector of all anti-educational vices both on the side of students, lecturers and non-tutorial staff,saying they had sacked Dr James Agina former Head of Political Science Department for similar ills and are currently investigating activities of few other employees fingered in such anomalies.

He assured that despite the allegations, the management shall carry out in-depth investigations to unravel the fact of the case and defaulters irrespective department or person, shall be disciplined to serve as the deterrent.

Meanwhile, the University management according to the PRO has also sent commendation letters to Dr Nduka Ozor and Dr Daniel Ayakpa for distinguishing themselves in the fight against examination malpractices and all other social vices prevalent in the university environment.
