The Ebonyi State Government has announced its intention to demolish illegal structures in Abakaliki, the state capital, starting Thursday.

The Commissioner for Capital City Development, Sunday Inyima, disclosed this to journalists during a visit by the Hausa Community, led by their State leader, Alhaji Danjuma Gambo. The community expressed their support for Governor Francis Nwifuru’s initiative to beautify the state capital.

According to the Commissioner, the demolition exercise aims to sanitize the capital city and elevate its status. Inyima stated, “The state government issued notices for the removal of illegal structures, including containers and other unauthorized constructions along major roads and streets in the capital city, first in November last year and reiterated the directive in December. We will commence this operation in areas such as Water Works Road and the road leading from the flyover to the House of Assembly.”

Inyima continued, “After our visit last year, representatives from the Hausa quarters, led by their leader, Sariki, and the Secretary, visited my office. They expressed their willingness and readiness to comply with the government directive.”
