Ebonyi Gov installs asphalt plant for Chuba Okadigbo airport runway revamp

Published by

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has installed an asphalt plant and other equipment for the rehabilitation of the Chuba Okadigbo Airport runway.

The Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, disclosed this information to journalists on Tuesday.

It’s worth noting that the airport was constructed by former Governor David Umahi and handed over to the federal government before his departure on May 29, 2023.

Governor Nwifuru observed that the runway was faulty due to improper construction. Consequently, he approved the sum of 13.75 billion for the rehabilitation.

Obichukwu emphasised that if the governor’s desired runway completion is achieved, it will significantly enhance the economic viability and development of the state.

She stated, ‘The installation of the asphalt plant is ongoing. The contractor has begun casting the asphalt plant base before installing the components.

‘From my observation, I can confirm the presence of various construction equipment on the site, such as the Excavator, Bulldozer, payloader, Crane, Water Tanker, Truck, Bituminous tank, and Paver machine.’

Additionally, the commissioner, Obichukwu, mentioned that more machines are en route, including the vibration roller, milling machine, grader, and others.

She also mentioned that the surveyor team has nearly completed their work on Chuba Okadigbo’s International Airport runway readings. She vowed to ensure that the contractor, IDC, delivers a project of high quality.
