Ebenezer Obey pays tribute to late brother

It is apparent that the heart of the music icon, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi (MFR), is still heavy over the demise of his only brother, Elder Clement Oluseye Olusegun Akanni Kembi.

As the Obey and the Kembi families prepare to honour the deceased with a befitting burial on January 17 and 18 in Lagos State, the Miliki King, has paid a heartfelt tribute to Kembi.

Service of song will be held at Graceway Chapel International Church,  LASU and Igando, Lagos, on Thursday and the funeral service at the same event on Friday, while the reception will follow immediately at The Haven Event Centre, behind Archbishop Vining Memorial Anglican Church Cathedral, off Oba Akinjobi road, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Obey’s tribute read: “Elder Kembi was a great companion and strong supporter of his (Obey’s) music career and that he has left a great vacuum in the entire family. He was born on April 1, 1946 at the Massey Street Hospital, Lagos, but was immediately brought to Idogo town in the Egbado (now Yewa) Division of Ogun State, where he grew up and started his Elementary School at the St. Augustine African School.

“His father, late Pa Joseph Aderinoye Kembi of the Igbore quarters in Abeokuta was a highly successful produce merchant widely known as Round-Tree as he was a representative of the Round-Tree Company of U.K in Idogo, Imeko, Ijoko and other places, while his mother, the late Madam Abigail Oyindamola Abeke (Nee Toriola) of the Lupooye family of Owu Abeokuta, was also a reputable cloth merchant popularly known as Iya Alaso.

“On completing his technical training, he took charge of ORMICO: Obey Radio and Musical Instrument Company Ltd with branches in Shipeolu and Gbajumo Streets in Lagos. And when the Ibadan branch of ORMICO was opened, his brother Chief Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi told him to choose one of the three branches. He chose Ibadan and that was how Clement Oluseye relocated to Ibadan where he started his business. He became very successful at the Oke-Ado branch of ORMICO. Again, when the Decross Production Factory came on stream, Elder Seye Kembi was also a very active participant, as he was always overseeing the factory and other businesses, especially, anytime his brother went on Musical tours outside the country.

“Elder Kembi, who was married to Mrs Shola Kembi and blessed with many children and grandchildren,   later relocated to the United States,  where he worked with Silfax Company and was preparing to come back home finally when he took ill before he eventually passed on October 31, 2018.”

Obey closed his tribute with a prayer for the departed, saying, “Sleep on dearly beloved brother, Alani Olusegun Oluseye Kembi, till we meet to part no more!”
