As Christians across the country celebrate Easter, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, have extended heartfelt greetings to the faithful, urging Nigerians to embrace the spirit of love, sacrifice, and unity symbolised by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In his Easter message released on Saturday, Hon. Kalu called on Nigerians to reflect on Christ’s teachings of compassion, forgiveness, and kindness, and to embody the selfless love exemplified by His life and death. He described Easter as a powerful reminder of hope and redemption.
“Christ showed the ultimate example of selfless love and sacrifice,” Kalu said. “As we celebrate Easter, let us reflect on Christ’s teachings and emulate His love, compassion, and kindness.”
Similarly, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin, in a message released on Sunday, urged citizens to deeply reflect on the significance of Easter, describing it as a sacred period that reminds all of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice and triumphant resurrection.
“Just as Jesus overcame death and brought salvation, we must not give up on the Nigeria project,” Ogundoyin stated. “Let us use this sacred season to pray fervently for our nation and recommit ourselves to values that foster peace, unity, and progress.”
Both leaders acknowledged the current challenges confronting the nation but expressed hope for a brighter future through collective effort and shared responsibility.
Hon. Kalu expressed optimism that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria would continue on the path of progress, urging Nigerians to pray for the nation’s unity, peace, and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin emphasised the importance of resilience and national cohesion, urging political, religious, and community leaders to lead with empathy, justice, and humility, especially during difficult times.
“Easter teaches us that after trials, there will be great triumphs,” Ogundoyin said. “A better Nigeria is possible, and it starts with each of us doing our part.”
Both lawmakers concluded their messages by wishing Nigerians a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration, encouraging citizens to extend love and kindness to one another in the true spirit of the season.
